Did the Construction of the Bhumibol Dam Cause a Dramatic Reduction in Sediment Supply to the Chao Phraya River?

The Bhumibol Dam on Ping River, Thailand, was constructed in 1964 to provide water for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, flood mitigation, fisheries, and saltwater intrusion control the Great Chao Phraya River basin. Many studies, carried out near basin outlet, have suggested that dam impounds significant sediment, resulting shoreline retreat of Delta. In this study, impact damming sediment regime is analyzed through variation along River. results show drains a mountainous region, with mainly transported suspension upper middle reaches. By contrast, mostly as bedload lower Variation long-term total flux data suggests that, while does effectively trap there only 5% reduction supply system because additions downstream.
